Letter from the Chapter
VP of New Member Education
Dear future sisters,
My name is Grace Brown and I am the Vice President of New Member Education for the 2020 term. I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself and this amazing chapter of women that I am so lucky to call home. I almost can’t put into words what these women mean to me and what Sigma Kappa has been able to give me but I am going to try.
Growing up I found myself seeking out different teams and groups trying to meet new people and although I gained a lot of acquaintances and casual friends I never truly meet anyone that I had a connection with. My first year of college I chose to go as far away as I could, I was seeking a fresh start and new surroundings. I tried joining clubs and getting involved and nothing was working, I could not make any meaningful connections and I was really struggling with making school feel like home. After one of the worst years of my life I moved home to Oregon feeling defeated and hopeless, I was planning to transfer to Oregon State in the fall. I was feeling doubtful and nervous because I had tried so hard and nothing seemed to work so I thought why would my sophomore year would not be any different. I was encouraged by my moms friends who had been sorority women in their college years to go thought recruitment and just see what would happen. I am glad I listened to them because Greek life has changed my life! I went through Primary Recruitment in the fall of my sophomore year and I have never looked back.
Through Greek life I have been able to meet women that will be in my life forever, I have met not only my best friends but my bridesmaids, my role models and my lifesavers. These women push me harder than anyone to be the best version of myself. Sigma Kappa has forever changed my life and I will be eternally grateful for this organization. I am so lucky to be able to call Sigma Kappa home and I hope that it can change your life the same way it changed mine.
